Solar Farms

Choosing the right place

We of course support all efforts to develop renewable sources of green energy. But we object to applications for solar ‘parks’ on our precious landscape when more suitable sites are available. We resisted such a park proposal alongside the river at Buckden because it was at variance with the Local Plan, and the site was liable to flood.

Car parks and industrial buildings

We applaud the example in St Ives where a large area of the Park and Ride carpark has been covered by panels. This is less intrusive and we would like this thinking to extend to all suitable car parks and to the roofs of industrial buildings. The technology also exists for new house roofs to be built with integrated solar energy generating materials to replace conventional tiles. This means the whole roof from ridge to gutter generates power!
