Access for all

Electric riverboat taxis

Another resolution from our first Community Engagement Workshop is to improve access to our green spaces and other attractions in the valley. This is easier said than done but we have already been active on two fronts. Visitor pressure at the National Trust Houghton Mill property is now resulting in much antisocial parking in the village as the riverside carpark quickly overflows. We initiated discussions between the St Ives Electric Riverboat Company and the Trust and are pleased to announce a riverboat taxi service to run from the town this year. Now there is no need to drive to Houghton to visit this iconic property, the last remaining working mill on the river.

Keeping the Ouse Valley Way open

Our second access issue has been the impassable nature of our long-distance footpath, the Ouse Valley Way. Such was the overgrowth of brambles and nettles, plus areas of bank erosion, that the path was fast becoming not just impenetrable but also unsafe. See Ouse Valley Way
