This could could be the oldest pub in England. Its history dates back to 560, and is a Grade Two Listed Building parts of which date back to the 17th Century. It even has its own ghost! Juliet Tewsley hung herself from a willow for love in 1050 – see gravestone in bar.
THE ONE-DAY FERRY!
The pub takes its name from the ferry that used to take passengers across the river. So, for one WOW! day only, we are organizing a ferry to the opposite bank between 10 am – 4 pm to allow walkers on the OVW to explore the paths beyond to the RSPB Fen Drayton Lakes Nature Reserve. Or, to cross to Holywell for a reviving drink and return for those on the Brownshill-St Ives walk. Map available.
Follow this link for info on the reserve (and others!) including a map: https://www.scambs.gov.uk/media/4284/18c9_ns-phase-1-es-tech-appx-c_designated_sites.pdf
The OVW Information Board
The board for this section of the Ouse Valley Way is situated just outside the pub to the left facing the river. It shows routes downstream along the path to The Pike and Eel pub, and onward to Earith. Or upstream to St Ives.
