WHATS ON!

Paxton Pits is a large complex of landscaped gravel workings now offering a mosaic of mature wetland, meadow and woodland habitats supporting a rich diversity of wildlife. It has many trails with maps available- but also offers easy access to the Ouse Valley Way.

Hidden Wildlife of the River Great Ouse Trail

This is a family trail starts from the Visitors Centre where you can pick up a trail leaflet. You can then head along the Heron Trail to discover 12 species of less well-known Ouse Valley Wildlife. It has been created by the Youth Rangers of the Wildlife Trust Beds, Cambs and Northants, working in partnership with HDC.

The Wow! Day Paxton Pits Circular Walk

From the Centre pick up the OVW at the river and turn left towards Buckden. At the OVW Information Board turn left on to a path that will follow the margins of a large lake and loop back to the Centre.

The Wow! Day Paxton Pits-Buckden Marina Walk

This lovely section of the OVW continues from the OVW Information Board and hugs the river with meadows and lakes on the left, until it passes a water-intake pumping station. It then soon takes you to Offord Mill and the Buckden Marina Hub. You can turn this into a circular walk back to Paxton Pits by turning left before the Mill, and following the path past Manor and Boughton Lodge Farms.

The Wow! Day Paxton Pits-St Neots Walk

This walk can be extended to Eaton Socon Lock. It can become circular here by turning left at the Lock and back to the St Neots Riverside Park Hub, and then back along the OVW to the Paxton Pits Hub.
